I have a challenged student who has a hard time grasping concepts that can't be taught by doing something or by experiencing something. Videos come in handy as a close second to reality.

I had to chuck some "rules" out the window with my challenged child. "TV" is usually taboo, but as I mentioned before, I use DVDs occasionally with my challenged student. When I was in school, I was told never to count on my fingers. Most teachers and home school parents told me I ought never to teach my children to do this either. I had to chuck that rule out the window when *nothing* else worked. My challenged child lingered four years in first grade math. Once I taught the child how to count to 99 on fingers, the child jumped one year ahead in math and is full steam ahead. Thanks to the "Schoolhouse Rock" DVD, this child memorized the multiplication tables. Obviously, breaking a few rules paid off.

I'm finding out that now! My youngest 3 are so different from my oldest!
