Love this. My panic has to do with submitting portfolios for the school district. It does help to start my academic year on July 1 (portfolios are due on June 30). We also start new books as soon as we finish one, and other than the portfolios and counting days, don't worry too much about the school year.
I loved this article and have been noticing the same thing all around me. We've become immune to this spring time panic by doing our academics year-round. No more crunching to meet someone else's schedule and the learning has become a lifestyle so it never ends. Loved all your tips Lee! Thanks for the inspiration.
This is our second year homeschooling and one thing I have changed is the scheduling of books. Rather than begin and end with the public school we begin a book when we end the last. We finished our math book in January and started the next about a week later. In March we were done with our history curriculum so we started a new one shortly thereafter (once the book came in). It makes budgeting for school a lot easier because I am buying books spread throughout the year instead of all at once. The girls are more relaxed and enjoy school because we no longer rush to get to the end of the book. My girls are a bit ahead but it makes me feel a whole lot better for those times that I am sick and feel like we are falling behind.
