I finally got around to asking the library to purchase a Standard Deviants DVD. Have you ever seen the Chemistry one? I wasn't impressed with it at all and am wondering if they are all similar to that one or not. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but this isn't what I was expecting....Thanks, Cindy in Montana
I too have used Standard Deviants and agree with Janet. It is not for primary instruction, but is helpful to nail down main points in a memorable, entertaining way if taking a CLEP test for instance. Even then, I would use it *in addition to a text. Zany isn't always bad; sometimes it helps retention.
Regarding the above article and spelling, etc....I totally agree. I will be forgiving of an isolated typo, but I pretty much eschew self-published material because of these issues.
We tried Standard Deviants several years ago for my three kids learning Italian. (My kids ranged in age from K-6 at the time.) It was fun. They like the videos. BUT the videos were more like preview trailers than actual curriculum. For little kids, it was fun to learn some Italian, but I wouldn't recommend it for anything more than a taste of a subject.
