Lee,I am watching your DVD's for high school. Question about college classes. My son took Elementary German 1 @ a college first semesterNow, 2nd semester, he is taking Elementary German 2So - in high school credits - would those classes each receive a credit, or would it be 1 credit
adding these two together, because it took 1 year to complete both. In other words:Elem German 1 - 1 creditElem German 2 - 1 creditORElem German 1 & 2 - 1 creditThanks for your help.Renee
It seems like each high school across the country does it their own way. Sometimes a school district will have a policy - but the policy may not affect homeschoolers. Sometimes the district doesn't have a policy, but the local high school has a method for converting. In that case you can choose to use their method or not. I think this is one of those situations where you have some flexibility. Often the most comfortable way to convert college credits is to either ask the local high school what they do, or ask the college where you are applying. It's interesting how there isn't a standard way to do it.
Blessings,
Lee
Hi Lee,
I wanted to just add a suggestion that parents consult how credits from college are counted by public high schools in their state. Here in Ohio a one semester college class(community college or otherwise) counts as 1 high school credit and a one quarter college class counts as 1/2 high school credit. My children have attended a community college on the quarter system and we have used this information in preparing transcripts. I think where this is really important is when you are applying to in-state schools so that everyone is speaking the same language, so to speak. I have had no issues doing it this way and both my children have been accepted to the state schools they have applied to and have been awarded significant scholarships
Thanks!
Cassie
