You really hit the nail on the head here! I was a classroom teacher for several years. I have just completed my 11th year of homeschooling and we have graduated our oldest student. If anything, my classroom experience has handicapped our homeschool efforts. The goal in homeschooling our children is NOT to keep up with what is being taught and how it is being taught in the government school setting. Most homeschoolers don't want public school at home. I am learning to be more creative, flexible, and to think out of the box than ever before. Having 8 children has kept me quite busy and since my youngest is 3 I figure I have 15 years to go, at least. So "let us run with endurance the race that is set before us." My Elementary Teaching degree didn't help me with homeschooling in any way I can think of. On the contrary, it may have made it more difficult to put aside my preconceived notions of how kids learn best...usually not just one way fitting all learning types!

There is no way on earth anyone could ever have prepared me for teaching my two very unique children. I think I'll pass on the course, LOL!
