Going to College? Invest In Wisdom

Going to College? Invest In Wisdom
I was reading through Proverbs, looking for some direct instruction about finances, and I stumbled upon something very interesting.  Read these scripture verses, and see if you notice a theme: Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding, for she is more profitable than silverand yields better returns than gold. (Proverbs 3:13-14) Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold (Proverbs 8:10) How much better to get wisdom than gold, to choose...

Homeschoolers: Don't be wise in your own eyes

Homeschoolers: Don't be wise in your own eyes
If you do your job well, your children will become well-educated.  Unfortunately, that sometimes can make teenagers feel like they are "smarter" or "better" than someone else.  It's a challenge to convey encouragement about their good efforts, without encouraging them to become prideful.  The Bible equates "being wise in your own eyes" with evil that should be shunned. Do not be wise in your own eyes;fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your...

I agree wholeheartedly. Humility is something we should make sure we teach out kids as well.

Be Strong in Wisdom AND the Spirit

Be Strong in Wisdom AND the Spirit
Stephen was strong, wise, and full of the Spirit.  We can learn a lot from the first martyr.  Here is what the Bible says:"These men began to argue with Stephen, but they could not stand up against his wisdom or the Spirit by whom he spoke." Acts 6:9-10Standing up against society is difficult.  Stephen's witness is so strong because he stood up against society using both wisdom and the Holy Spirit - not just one or...

Please Pray For Our Leaders

Please Pray For Our Leaders
I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.  1 Timothy 2:1-3 (New International Version)We are living in dangerous times.  Pray that our President Obama...

Teach them Wisdom

Teach them Wisdom
Proverbs 4:5-6 (New International Version)Get wisdom, get understanding;do not forget my words or swerve from them.Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you;love her, and she will watch over you. It's a scary world out there.  I wish I could protect my children forever.  Faced with almost a trillion dollars of new debt, with the government printing monopoly money like crazy, the experts say we are on the precipice of a "Great Depression."  I wish I...

Are you happy yet?

Are you happy yet?
Do you want to make your children happy?Proverbs 3:13-18 (NKJV) Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding.I love the fact that a man who finds wisdom is happy.  I'm less thrilled that the boy LOOKING for wisdom may be less than happy :-)  Keep up the good work, though.  Homeschooling can be difficult, and rarely do our children say "thank you."  But the fruits of our labor will lead to...
