College Admission Essays - Start Early!

College Admission Essays - Start Early!
The best advice for college admission essays is to start early! If you have a junior, you may want to have them write a college admission essay now, for practice.  You can use it "as-is" next year, edit it heavily, or just use the practice to make writing a new one easier.  You can find college admission essay topics on the website of most colleges.  Google the name of the college, and click on admission.  You...

College Application Essays - "BEE Yourself"

College Application Essays - "BEE Yourself"
There is a line in the Disney movie "Alladin" that has always stuck with me.  The genie tells Alladin that the best way to win the girl is to "Bee yourself".  That strategy works with college applications as well.  In this article, you can read about what college admission folks REALLY want to see in an essay.  The certainly don't want lists of facts - they want to SEE THE STUDENT in the words.  Read the...

Get Ready for the SAT!

Get Ready for the SAT!

Women's beach volleyball, anyone?

Women's beach volleyball, anyone?
I love watching the Olympics, but I have to admit that I prefer the Canadian coverage.  The US coverage seems to provide hours and hours and days and days of women's beach volleyball.  I have nothing against women's beach volleyball, but I really wanted to see more of the Olympics than just that.  When I turn on the Canadian coverage, I can see marathons, diving, gymnastics, and track.  I love it!How can these be so different...

About The HomeScholar

Lee has three core beliefs about homeschooling: homeschooling provides the best possible learning environment; every child deserves a college-prep education whether or not they choose to go to college, and parents are capable of providing a superior education to their children. Lee does not judge your homeschool or evaluate your children. Instead, she comes alongside to help and encourage parents homeschooling high school.
