Hear Me Speak at WATCH!

Hear Me Speak at WATCH!
I am so excited to be speaking at the upcoming WATCH convention on August 7 and 8 in Seattle, WA.  Here are my topics:
Getting the BIG Scholarships (Workshop "C" 10:30 Saturday)
Have you ever wondered, "what about scholarships?" Because of the wonderful benefits of homeschooling, homeschool students frequently get great scholarships for colleges. Drawing from her experiencing in helping her two children win full-tuition scholarships from their first choice university, Lee Binz, The HomeScholar will teach you how to prepare your students for scholarships, and then use marketing to position them for the best possible financial aid package.

Keys to High School Success (Workshop "A" 11:00 Friday)
You don't need to be afraid to homeschool high school! Lee Binz, The HomeScholar, will explain why that is true. She will also give key strategies to lighten your workload, improve the quality of your children's education, prepare them for college, help them in life, and lessen your stress level - all while staying in front of the college admission requirements.

I hope to see you there!

Advice on Attending College Fairs

Advice on Attending College Fairs
Now is a GREAT time to go to a college fair!  Karen asked a question about college fairs, and wanted to give more information to her Christian homeschool group.  Click here to find a college fair in your own area.

Here is Karen's question and my suggestions
On March 22, 2009, there will be a large college fair in the Merchandise Mart here in Charlotte.
Are you familiar with this organization? Any tips that I can pass along to area homeschoolers (with your link attached) on how to best utilize this event – either the particular event or college fairs in general?

Hi Karen,

I know this college fair organization quite well.  This is a college fair put on by the largest secular college fair group in the nation that attracts a huge variety of colleges.  I think it's a wonderful opportunity for homeschoolers to attend this college fair, and I strongly encourage everyone to give it a try.  In this economy, especially, it makes sense.  A college fair will help you get to know the colleges pretty well, and since they are coming to you it's MUCH cheaper than flying around the country visiting them.

It can be very overwhelming to go to a college fair this large - it's really a lot like a huge homeschool convention!  Here is an article I wrote about going to a college fair.  You'll notice that I even mention the organization putting on the college fair in your area.

For help selecting a college, I encourage people to watch the video "Finding a College."   It doesn't tell you what college is right for your student, it explains how to figure it out for yourself through the process of college fairs, research, and college visits.   It's great to watch before going to a college fair!

GO to the college fair!  You will be amazed at the wide variety of colleges out there, and you're almost sure to find a perfect fit for your child.  Some will offer perfect-fit scholarships, some specialize in learning disabilities, some will be very similar to your homeschool, and some will have that strangely unique mix of majors your child is interested in.  Most colleges understand homeschoolers now, and a college fair is a great opportunity to find out what different colleges would like from us.

And worst-case scenario, you come home with some extra pens and pencils that the colleges are giving away.

I hope that helps, Karen.  Let me know if you need more information!

Don't Become Weary!

Don't Become Weary!
Galatians 6:9
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

I had such a wonderful time meeting with all of you who came out to the PNW Home School College Fair yesterday.  It was an amazing blessing to be able to finally meet so many of you who have been my email friends for so long.

It encouraged me to hear all of the stories of families who have been helped reading my blog and newsletter.  Sometimes the cyber-world is a lonely place and being able to get some direct feedback was really helpful.

I heard some amazing stories from families who are bravely facing the high school years with all sorts of challenges.  My message for you is "don't become weary!"  You ARE doing good.  Someday, your children will rise and call you "blessed!"

I understand that oftentimes children don't have the perspective to appreciate the sacrifices you are making to homeschool them.  Adults do, however.  When your children are grown, they will finally understand and that is a hope you can hang onto!  You will have raised fine young men and women who understand the value of an education and of having parents who know, love and are fully committed to them.

And that is the greatest gift you will ever give your children.

If you were wishing you could have come but couldn't make it yesterday, we will be putting the audio of my two talks on CD.  You can also get all of my products at convention prices (and no shipping) by ordering the "Convention at Home" Kit.

Come Watch Me at WATCH!

Come Watch Me at WATCH!
Please come to the WATCH convention this Friday and Saturday.  Last night I wrapped my give-away basket.  This time I'm calling it "A Moment of Peace at the Beach" because it includes a beach bag, flip flops, beach towel, bamboo mat, journal, bottle cooler, and lemonade.  It's really neat looking!  I would love for you to come and see me at my booth!   To register to win, I only need your name, email, and cell phone number (so I can call and tell you when you've won!)  All entries will be automatically subscribed to my email newsletter, but you can enter if you're already a subscriber.

I'm also speaking on "Affording Christian College" and "Making a Transcript."  This will be the third time in one week I have given the talk on "Making a Transcript!"  It was really well received at both the Heart of the Matter virtual conference last weekend and the HIS Homeschool Group earlier today.  I am excited to share with you on both of these important topics!

I'm getting excited about WATCH!

Hey, I just joined Facebook!  Please send me a friend request!

About us

Lee has three core beliefs about homeschooling: homeschooling provides the best possible learning environment; every child deserves a college-prep education whether or not they choose to go to college; and parents are capable of providing a superior education to their children. Lee does not judge your homeschool or evaluate your children. Instead, she comes alongside to help and encourage parents homeschooling high school.
