NCAA 101 for Homeschoolers

NCAA 101 for Homeschoolers

If you don't know, NCAA means National Collegiate Athletic Association.  If you don't know what it is, you probably aren't worried about it at all.  But if you DO know what it means, then as a homeschool parent you may feel stressed or insecure.  Let me help!

Comprehensive Record Solution vs. Total Transcript Solution

Comprehensive Record Solution vs. Total Transcript Solution
How do you compare the Comprehensive Record Solution and the Total Transcript Solution? The key is in the name!  Do you need Comprehensive Records?  Or do you need help with a Transcript?

Most parents appreciate a little help and encouragement on their homeschooling journey. My free newsletter delivers this fresh each month. Click to get some yourself: The HomeScholar Record Newsletter
The Total Transcript Solution is geared for parents who need to make a transcript. It is intended to break the process down into small, easy to manage elements.

The Comprehensive Record Solution is geared for parents who know they need to do more than “just a transcript.” It will enable you to create the transcript, but also the course descriptions, reading list, activities and award list and work samples that go into a “comprehensive” record.

The Comprehensive Record Solution includes just a brief overview of making a transcript, and provides a simple transcript template.  It's possible to get your transcript done if all you order is the Comprehensive Record Solution. If you need more help with your transcripts, or want more templates, more training, and personalized help, then you will want to get the Total Transcript Solution as well.

If you haven’t purchased anything yet,  I recommend you get the Comprehensive Record Solution first.  The two packages don't really overlap much at all. The Total Transcript Solution is ALL about transcripts, The Comprehensive Record Solution is ALL about course descriptions with some basic training on transcripts. Read what happy customers say about the Comprehensive Record Solution and how it helped their family.

If you have already purchased the Total Transcript Solution, then I know you will REALLY benefit from the content of the Comprehensive Record Solution. You area already familiar with me, you know my position on many high school topics, and you must already like my writing style.   Since there isn't much overlap between the Total Transcript Solution and the Comprehensive Record Solution, if you have enjoyed the fist one, this will also be a GREAT fit for you.

The Comprehensive Record Solution provides the training and templates and real life examples of successful high school records.

This blog post originally ran in December 2010. We've revamped it with new and current information for you!

Subject Line - SUCCESS STORY!

Subject Line - SUCCESS STORY!
What a blessing to read about good news! Cynthia wrote to tell me about her marvelous success story! They were able to get their child the college admission and scholarships of her dreams!

Cynthia's Success Story!

 Hi Lee -

I am writing to say thank you and to share our success story with you.

Our eldest (of three) children was just accepted early decision into Lafayette College in Easton, PA! Your resources were invaluable in helping me wade through the application process. I used both your "Total Transcript Solution" and "Comprehensive Record Solution." I so appreciate all the information, directions, and samples provided so that I could customize our son's application to make him stand out. I feel our end product - the transcript, comprehensive records, in addition to the essays he and I both had to write and the recommendations from others - was an outstanding product that helped the college selection committee see our son's academic excellence and also his character, which led them to a decision to admit him to their institution.

I recommend your materials to all homeschoolers who have high school students, and I also agree with your suggestions that homeschoolers with younger students should also begin to learn all about keeping records before their children are in high school. I find myself almost looking forward to creating the transcripts and records for our two younger children!

Blessings and joy as you and your family!

In Christ,

Cynthia in NJ

College Admission Classes at a College Fair

College Admission Classes at a College Fair
Homeschool conventions are continuing education classes for parents, right? Well, when you attend a college fair, you will notice how they are remarkably similar to homeschool conventions.

In fact, when you attend a college fair, you will probably have the opportunity to take some classes or workshops while you are there.  I encourage you to take those classes!  College applications are important, and the more you know about it, the more likely you are to get college admission and scholarships.

Margaret attended a college fair, and sent me an email with this feedback.
Dear Lee,

Last weekend, my son and I attended a college admissions workshop. Attending were deans of admission from prominent public and private universities in VA, MD, and NC.

In between sessions, I introduced myself as a homeschooler to the deans of admission for two of the top public universities in the US.  I showed them sample course descriptions that I had made from your comprehensive record solution, and asked if information like that would be helpful.  They were very enthusiastic about the information.  They consider rigor of coursework as one of their main criteria, and they felt that this information could help significantly.  They said they would be especially interested in seeing the course descriptions for the current (senior) year with the application.  It hadn't occurred to me to include those course descriptions (although you probably tell us to somewhere!).

I also asked them about the "all A's" dilmemma, and whether it looks suspicious on a homeschooled transcript.  They understood how I could worry about that, but they said that if thegrades were corroborated with outside grades, like community college, and test scores, then they wouldn't think twice about a homeschooler having a "perfect" report card.  They also encouraged me to give them lots of information about how we chose our courses and what our educational philosophy was.

Basically, everything they said dove-tailed beautifully with everything you say.  I know that you are not surprised, but I thought it might be nice to hear anyway!

Thanks for all you do,

Now feeling comfortable and confident, she was able to successfully navigate the college admission process with her child.  You can be confident too!  Go ahead, check out a college fair and attend a class.  Remember to ask questions!

Comprehensive Record Saves The Day!

Comprehensive Record Saves The Day!
I have a confession to make! I actually used my own Homeschool Comprehensive Records last month!

It's true! My son Kevin is headed to graduate school, and he needed to know his immunization records. Since that is required by Washington State Homeschool law, that was a part of my Comprehensive Homeschool Records. I opened my binder, quickly found the immunization records, made a copy, and emailed it to my son. Presto! Crisis averted!

And then it struck me! My son is 25, and I haven't homeschooled for ages, but my Comprehensive Homeschool Records are still helping me! Normally I can't remember squat, and I was so thankful my homeschool records saved my bacon.

If you suffer from The Heartbreak of Homeschool CRS* and you are unable to prepare your homeschool records because you "Can't Remember Squat" about your homeschool, let me help.

Inspiration for Course Descriptions

Inspiration for Course Descriptions
Google is a marvelous thing!  It's possible to find course titles and descriptions with a simple search!  For example, the website for the Indiana Department of Education has a page of Course Titles and Descriptions. That means acres and acres of real public school classes for you to stare at in amazement, enjoying their strange mixture.

Look at the variety of course titles here - great options!  Look at the words for course descriptions - mix and match! This is the "art" part of making transcripts and course descriptions.  It's not always easy, but there is no right or wrong answer, so don’t stress out.

While you are there, notice some of the really weird classes. Are you teaching any of these classes?

  • Construction Technology Heavy Equipment I

  • Advanced Life Science: Foods

  • Landscape Management II

  • Digital Citizenship

You don't need to teach them, of course.  But look at the freedom you have to create meaningful classes that will fit your student and use the resources you have available!  Awesome!

Homeschoolers aren’t the only ones who have to come up with course descriptions. This website (Indiana Dept. of Education) helps their schools put together course descriptions. Here’s what they tell their schools: “Course descriptions provide brief statements of the content of kindergarten, elementary, middle level and high school curricular areas. These descriptions will assist schools in communicating, in a broad context, the content standards of courses.”  Yup.  That's why we write course descriptions too!

Don’t let course descriptions scare you!  They’re really just like a fourth grade writing assignment.  They don't have to sound as scary or official as the descriptions from a high school.  Course descriptions communicate the content of your courses.

You can find great support and ideas from my online Comprehensive Record Solution and my book Setting the Records Straight.  Let me know if you need help!

Surprise! Course Descriptions Needed Early!

Surprise! Course Descriptions Needed Early!
The trials and tribulations of having a gifted child...  It's not as easy as it may sound to others.  Surprises happen.  And you know, surprises are rarely convenient! For example, Lauren was surprised to find out she needed a transcript and course descriptions for her 14 year old, but it really paid off!

I wanted to tell you that my oldest son just was accepted to the dual enrollment program at Georgia Perimeter College. Here in Georgia, kids have to apply just as if they were going to full time college even to take one dual enrollment class  - in his case, Calculus 2.
This is my son who is profoundly gifted, oldest of our 9 kids and 4 years ahead in math & science. He also plays football and thus does not want to graduate from high school early. To make matters even more difficult, he wants to attend a state school that does not allow homeschoolers to dual enroll and PLAY division 1 FOOTBALL there! It’s going to be a LOOONNNGGG road ahead for all this!So the good news is that I have been keeping lots of records. I purchased your Comprehensive Record Solution last fall and started writing course descriptions. At 14, he has already accumulated more than 20 high school credits! I also made a transcript based on all of your advice.

Well, little did I know all that would be needed JUST to apply for one Calculus 2 dual enrollment class. I was SO glad I had your templates and suggestions to help me.

Last week, after submitting 25 course descriptions, a homeschool transcript, ACT scores, and 2 AP scores, he got theacceptance letter. Whew! Now we can proceed with the craziness of trying to get him into the ONE section of online Calculus 2 in January!

Just wanted to say thanks

It was wonderful to hear from Lauren.  It's such good advice to start record keeping in junior high, but especially if you have a gifted child.

In this situation, I suggested that the Mom makes sure that community college classes won't mess up NCAA eligibility for the future, since her son might be interested in college sports.  If you have questions about the NCAA, this blog post may help: NCAA 101 for Homeschoolers.   I also suggested that might become her new best friend. provides college level course without the official transcript.  It's just pure learning at a college level, perfect for gifted kids ready for classes beyond high school curriculum.

I encourage parents to work ahead.  Don't wait until you really need transcripts and course descriptions.  Instead, learn about them before you start high school, so you can be prepared and panic-free.  Don't let anxiety keep you from enjoying high school.  Just relax and do a bit of research before it becomes urgent.  You'll be glad you did!

The HomeScholar’s Total Transcript Solution will take the fear out of homeschool transcripts!

Homeschool Mom's Investment Wins Big!

Homeschool Mom's Investment Wins Big!
Thank you, Sue, for sharing your experience!

Even though I am in the field of education, finding a plan for homeschooling high school and preparing good college transcripts was not easy. Then I came across Lee’s website and everything changed.

I first purchased the “Total Transcript Solution” program to help me organize and plan my 10th grade daughter’s transcripts. Lee added so many bonuses and articles which helped me in the whole process so that* I now have an entire high school template to keep our homeschooling on track.*The best part was the free month of weekly one-on-one calls where she gave advice and actually critiqued my working drafts.

I then purchased the “Comprehensive Records Solution” and discovered so many ways to enhance my daughter’s transcript. We now work together and actually prepare classes and projects to showcase her special talents in the field in which she wants to study. Without the attention to details found in the comprehensive programs she wouldn’t be as appealing to her college as she looks now. I also felt so strongly in the need for Lee’s programs and services for homeschool parents, just like me, that I shared them with my local homeschool group.

Lastly, I joined the “Gold Care Club” and can’t wait for my weekly discussion with Lee. I now feel confident that my daughter will have the necessary transcripts for graduating high school as well as the crucial transcripts for getting into the college of her choice.

5 Final Reasons to Get The Comprehensive Record Solution Today!

5 Final Reasons to Get The Comprehensive Record Solution Today!
Today is the final day to get my Comprehensive Record Solution at the introductory price of $97. Tomorrow the price goes to it's regular price of $147.  We have written extensively why documenting your homeschool students comprehensive records is a smart idea for every college bound homeschool family.  Here are five final reasons you should consider today before the price increases.

  1. College admissions is a high stakes, highly competitive game and you need to present your best foot forward in order to set your student apart

  2. Homeschooling provides students with some very distinct and quantifiable advantages that don't always shine through in the college application process.  A comprehensive record ensures those advantages are highlighted.

  3. College Admissions officials are called on to make some very important decisions (admission and scholarships) using very limited data (transcript and application.)  Most will very much appreciate more information presented to them in a logical, easy-to-use format.  The comprehensive record is a proven strategy to give them what they want.

  4. Documenting your student's records is amazingly motivating to students.  We have heard over and over how empowering and inspiring it is to share the process of record building with homeschool students.  It makes their homeschool education feel valuable and real to them.

  5. Putting together homeschool records for your student's college application is a big job.  It is always easier to copy a successful model rather than creating one yourself.

Our comprehensive records were viewed by the colleges as a "best-practice."  Seattle Pacific University said they were "the best documents and records" they had ever seen.  We were awarded $184,000 worth of scholarships from that university and massive scholarships from the other universities we applied to as a result of the doors that were opened by our comprehensive records.   You owe it to yourself and your family to make this investment in a proven system and let me help you create your own beautiful, inspiring, door-opening records.  I guarantee you will be very happy with the product and the results.

Get the Comprehensive Record Solution here.

PS.  We have a last chance Q&A webinar tonight at 4 PM Pacific time prior to the price increase.  Get all your final questions answered there!
