Is Apologia Science Rigorous Enough for the College-Bound?

Is Apologia Science Rigorous Enough for the College-Bound?
Are Apologia science textbooks rigorous enough for college-bound students?  Sure, they are popular with homeschoolers, but how GOOD are they as science books? Are Apologia science textbooks fairly rigorous, for college-bound students?  I've heard a few conflicting reports...~Jill in SeattleApologia is a very rigorous college prep series.  I don't usually recommend specific curriculum, because I know it's all about "fit" more than a textbook.  When it comes to science, though, I had such success with the...

Homeschool Science - Choosing Curriculum

Homeschool Science - Choosing Curriculum
Not everyone loves Apologia.  I always encourage parents to use what works for their student, because not all children learn the same way.  It's more important that a curriculum WORKS than if it is popular, inexpensive, or highly rated. I'm hoping you can help me.......this is my first year to homeschool a high school student. My daughter is now in "9th grade" and I am completely lost with regards to science. I am not into science,...

Should I Continue Abeka and Apologia?

Should I Continue Abeka and Apologia?
I am considering continuing with Abeka and Apologia for science for my high schooler. Do you think this curriculum is strong enough to prepare him for college? Thank you for your opinion~ Theresa on Facebook Theresa,I recommend that you keep using whatever has worked for you in the past. Kids will learn more when they understand what is being taught then they will if the curriculum is "perfect" but makes no sense to them.  So if...

A Shameless Plug for Apologia Science

A Shameless Plug for Apologia Science
For science, I strongly prefer Apologia sciences.  Three reasons: Because my younger son passed a CLEP after Apologia Biology, Both of my sons got a 4.0 in engineering physics after Apologia Physics Both were granted an exemption from taking college chemistry after Apologia chemistry in high school. For these reasons, I know for certain that Apologia was a college prep science curriculum.  I know it's not a perfect fit for every family, because it's written from a...

Homeschool Physics - An Apologia Success Story

Homeschool Physics - An Apologia Success Story
It happened again.  I just found Kevin reading his Apologia Physics book.  For fun.  He's a junior in engineering school, got straight A's last quarter in all his engineering classes.  And he reads his Apologia Physics book for fun.  He is a "little nervous" about next quarter because he is taking quantum mechanics, so he wanted to review Apologia again before the quarter starts.  Good investment, that book.  Apologia PhysicsQuote of the day:"Getting good grades is...

Is Your Science Curriculum Working?

Is Your Science Curriculum Working?
If you have decided on science for this year, and it's just not working out, what should you do?It's always hard to decide when to stick with a subject and when to stop and try something else.  Jay Wile of Apologia says that since biology, chemistry, and physics are such different sciences, it's possible for a kid to like one and hate the other two.  Dr. Wile said that it's our job as parents to make...

About The HomeScholar

Lee has three core beliefs about homeschooling: homeschooling provides the best possible learning environment; every child deserves a college-prep education whether or not they choose to go to college, and parents are capable of providing a superior education to their children. Lee does not judge your homeschool or evaluate your children. Instead, she comes alongside to help and encourage parents homeschooling high school.
