AWANA

AWANA
Awana is a wonderful program, and a great way to get Bible credit naturally in a fun activity.  I know it take a LOT of work.  Because it takes so much time and effort, I usually suggest including it on your high school transcripts.  In private schools and many homeschools, families include Bible on their transcript as a regular subject area - just like math, or science, or physical education.  On my transcript, I had Bible...

Too Many Credits

Too Many Credits
For the problem of “too many credits” you can handle it a few different ways. You can keep only the most recent credits. You can lower the credit value of all classes. You can eliminate classes that could also be considered an “activity” instead (so ballet would be an activity and not a PE credit.) You can pick and choose some classes to drop off the transcript if you have more than the usual requirements. (Drop...

Homeschooling High School: Course Descriptions for Visual Learners

Homeschooling High School: Course Descriptions for Visual Learners
I'm a visual learner. Show me an example, and I can usually imitate it (unless technology stands in my way.)  Are you a visual thinker?  What would you like to see?"I'm a visual thinker and I guess I need to SEE a piece of paper as to how the course descriptions are laid out and formatted. Do you have a format?" ~ Maria Here are some links for visual learners who want to see a course...

Celebrate Homeschool Freedom: Join me on July 7!

Celebrate Homeschool Freedom: Join me on July 7!
This time of year always brings about the feelings of awe and thankfulness for the freedoms that we hold dear in this country. Franklin D. Roosevelt listed these Four Freedoms:  Freedom of Speech and Expression, Freedom of Worship, Freedom from Want, and Freedom from Fear . Homeschool families know these freedoms very well. We express our freedoms by exerting our right to home educate our children. Yet, there are still those things that lurk around the...

Is this enough for a high school credit?

Is this enough for a high school credit?
Is this enough for a high school credit?  That depends on what YOU think - it's up to the homeschool parent! I just finished watching your webinar on the grades, credits, and transcripts. My son is in the 9th grade and I am having him go through both books of the All American History.  This is one of those curriculums that can be adjusted to all ages so they give suggestions as to what you can...

Real Life Homeschool Education

Real Life Homeschool Education
It can be difficult to determine when an activity should be considered a high school course or just an activity.  Everyone has an opinion, and different parents may handle the same situation in a different way.  Stephanie asked for my opinion on getting high school credit for work experience. My son has been working at a restaurant as a cook for several months.  In order to keep this job, he had to memorize the entire menu...

Homeschool Transcripts: When Can you Call it an Elective?

Homeschool Transcripts: When Can you Call it an Elective?
Electives can be a million different things, and homeschoolers have limitless possibilities in the variety of classes they can give their children.  When you provide a unique class, it might be a regular subject area, or it might be an elective, or it might be an activity.   Every situation is unique, but I can provide a general rule of thumb that may help if you have an unusual question like Judi.I have your books Setting the...

Homeschool High School: Senior Year English

Homeschool High School: Senior Year English
Colleges want four years of high school English.  You've done it all and you have one more year of high school to go.  What to do about English?Hey Lee,I am a high school senior, and I was wondering what you would recommend me to take for English class this fall. I don't actually "need" another English credit so this is mostly going to be something that I'm doing just to make my transcript look better. I'm...

Earning Early High School Credit in Homeschool

Earning Early High School Credit in Homeschool
Early high school credit in middle school?  Are you kidding?  How does that happen? You mentioned (The Best Time to Start Your Homeschool Transcript) about middle school students taking high school courses and not realizing it. How is that done?  Wouldn't a  person know what grade level book they are using, typically. My twins are going into 8th grade next year.  Are there any courses that we could do to help us get a step ahead in...
