Study Guides for the SAT and ACT

These are the books I recommend for studying for the SAT and ACT.

Use this book if your child is doing well in school 11 Practice Tests for the SAT & PSAT, 2011 Edition

Use the book below if your child needs more help figuring out basics of what the test covers Cracking the SAT, 2011 Edition

Each test has sections that take approximately 25 minutes.  Have the student take one section per day, three days a week or more.  They can correct the test themselves, or you can correct it.  Go over only the problems they miss, and explain the correct answer.  The student will become more and more familiar with the test and what the answers the tests are looking for.  Each time the student completes a whole test, calculate their score on that test.   You'll be able to monitor their improvement.

Some families will intensively study for the SAT for two months before taking the test.  Other families will take a "slow and steady" approach, studying three times a week for two years.  It depends on the family, your goals, and how much your student will tolerate test preparation.
